It’s November, long-time host to National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), a challenge taken on by hundreds of thousands of writers to complete the first draft of a 50K-word novel in 30 days. I started it a few times, came up with a couple killer first paragraphs, but only completed it once.
I often have a subterranean panic attack when I sit down to write. On 11/1/2015 I had an empty mind, no ideas whatsoever, and thought to combat the panic by using this Storymatic collection of 540-character, situation, and object cards.
These are the cards I drew:
I didn’t stop to think, just plunged in and free-wrote into an abyss that was a hurricane hitting Pensacola Beach with these two characters. I ended the month with a 53,200-word hell of a mess, but it was so much fun to write. Someday I may edit it into a long short story.
But I digress. This post is actually about November 1 as the start of National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo).
As with most things, I came to blogging a dozen years after its heyday. I’m not organized; I don’t have a theme. Such is the state of my brain. This month will be a mishmash of images, poetry, reflective essay snippets, maybe a short story spread across a few days. Here’s the link to what I did last November. https://wordsforabetterworld.org/blog/
I know everything I write won’t resonate with everyone, but maybe a nugget here or there will register with some of you. Thanks in advance for any reading you do.
#NanoPoblano2024 is the tag for our group of bloggers, the Cheer Peppers. You can find links to the rest of our team’s writing here: https://cheerpeppers.wordpress.com/2024-team/ It’s an eclectic group of writers and artists producing interesting work.

I neglect my blog for so long until November and then I hash out 30 days of content to only neglect it again. 53k+ words is amazing. Looking forward to reading more.

Hi, Kel. Thanks for stopping by. And I do the same thing. I have a terrible habit of composing things in my head then forgetting them when I’m in a place I can write. Or they feel flat. I appreciate the Nov challenge so much because it helps me focus. Though right now I’m in a tizzy about what to post today! I’m looking forward to reading your work this month, too.
