#NanoPoblano2024 Day 10 – Something Uplifting

November 10, 2024

Remember this? January 25, 2017, five days after trump was inaugurated, Greenpeace hung this 70’ x 35’ banner 300 feet in the air from a crane near the White House. To paraphrase Wordsworth, my heart leapt up when I beheld that banner in the sky.

It was a call-out to us, a flag of hope, a model of baddassery reminiscent of Bree Newsome climbing the flagpole to rip down the Confederate flag outside the South Carolina statehouse on June 27, 2015.

I love people with courage to take grand action in the name of justice. I can’t think of anything I’ve done that was actually courageous. All my civil disobedience actions were in an era and in circumstances where it was safer. There were small risks. I was never very brave. So I have great admiration for and get great inspiration from people like this.

I hope this memory brings you inspiration too. We’re all going to need it.
